Aryaman Birla, son of Kumar Mangalam Birla is in the news again. Aryaman is being dubbed as the richest cricketer who retired at the age of 22. Aryaman, who played for Madhya Pradesh in Ranji Trophy took an indefinite break from cricket citing mental health challenges. Here’s a look at what his life has been like.
Aryaman made his debut in Ranji Trophy in 2017 for Madhya Pradesh. The batter shared a 72-run opening partnership in his very first innings Rajat Patidar while playing against Odisha. Aryaman’s stokes rose when he was bought by Rajasthan Royals in 2018, for Rs 30 lakh.
However, Aryaman, could not sustain his cricketing career. Since taking his indefinite break from cricket has been busy in his father’s business. The Birla’s are reportedly worth – Rs 2,35,200 crore and are one of the richest families in India.
ARYAMAN’S MAIDEN RANJI HUNDRED
Aryaman Vikram Birla notched up his maiden first-class hundred in November 2018. Aryaman achieved the milestone on the fourth and final day on Thursday to help Madhya Pradesh earn one point after the Ranji Trophy match against Bengal ended in a draw at the Eden Gardens. Bengal got 3 points thanks to their 175-run first innings lead.
Aryaman had made his debut in 2018 against Odisha in Indore scoring 16 and 6 in the two innings. Aryaman, then a 21-year-old, had looked in good touch in 2019. In the first two outings, he has scored 51 against Tamil Nadu, and 12 and 103 not out against Bengal.
INDEFINITE BREAK FROM CRICKET
Aryaman announced in December 2019, that he is taking an indefinite break from cricket, citing “severe anxiety related to the sport” as the primary reason. Aryaman released a statement on Instagram and said: “It has been a journey of hard work, dedication and immense courage to get to this point in my cricket career. I have been coping with severe anxiety related to the sport for a while now”.
“I have felt trapped. I have pushed myself through all the distress so far, but now I feel the need to put my mental health and wellbeing above else. So I have decided to take an undefined sabbatical from cricket,” he added.
“This phase has been difficult, but it has also helped me realise who my real friends and well-wishers are. I truly believe I will emerge from this phase even stronger than before,” Aryaman wrote in his post.
As of now, Aryaman currently posts regularly on Instagram. His posts include Birlas’ business ventures and highlights of his personal life and family.
