Viduthalai Part 2, starring Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Vetrimaaran, is steadily picking pace at the box office. After a decent opening of Rs 7.50 crore on the opening day, the film is now eyeing Rs 20 crore at the end of the first weekend.

Viduthalai Part 2 earned an estimated sum of Rs 8 crore on Day 2, taking the total tally of the film to Rs 15.50 crore. As per a Sacnilk report, the film witnessed an overall 40.05% occupancy in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. The confirmed figures are yet to arrive.

The film is a sequel to the 2023 hit Viduthalai Part 1, and it is based on Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan. The storyline revolves around a police constable’s struggle against the leader of a separatist group.

Soori reprises his role as Constable Kumaresan, while Vijay Sethupathi plays Perumal Vaathiyaar, the leader of Makkal Padai. Manju Warrier portrays Mahalakshmi, the wife of Perumal.

India Today Digital rated Viduthalai Part 2 with three out of five stars. A part of the review read: “Vijay Sethupathi anchors the film with a stellar performance, while Soori, as Kumarasean, ably supports him in the second part. Soori truly shines during the intermission and climax. Viduthalai Part 2 questions the authoritative system, and it shows ample moments that portray the arrogance of higher officials. Every supporting actor from Kishore, Ilavarasu, Thamizh, Chethan to Balaji Sakthivel lived their roles. Manju Warrier, in her limited screentime, could have had a meatier role.”

While Viduthalai Part 2 faced no major competition in the Tamil belt, it clashed with the Kannada film UI and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which is still doing great at the box office.
