The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas on Friday, as announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Additionally, the Cabinet approved the expansion of one existing Kendriya Vidyalaya.
These new Kendriya Vidyalayas will offer more than 82,000 students across the nation access to affordable and high-quality education.
The total cost for setting up the 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas and expanding the existing one is estimated at Rs 5,872.08 crore, with funding spread over eight years starting from 2025-26.
Currently, there are 1,256 operational Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three located abroad—in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran.
The new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) will be spread across various states. Andhra Pradesh will get eight new KVs, Madhya Pradesh will receive 11, and Uttar Pradesh will have five, among other states.
For the Navodaya Vidyalayas, Arunachal Pradesh will benefit from eight new schools, Assam will get six, and Telangana will have seven, as part of this nationwide expansion initiative.
