Three petrol bombs were thrown at a theatre in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, by two unidentified assailants in the early hours of Saturday.

The attack comes amid ongoing protests by several groups against the portrayal of Muslims in a negative light in the film Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan. The film was being screened at Alangar Cinemas, among other venues.

Senior police officials, speaking to India Today, stated that the exact motive behind the attack will only be determined after further investigation.

Police also indicated that the incident could be linked to a dispute between locals on Friday, and are exploring this possibility as part of their investigation.

CCTV footage captured two men throwing the petrol bombs at the theatre before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, there was no reported damage from the attack.

Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to apprehend the perpetrators.
