The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) saved six fishermen and four jetty workers stranded off the Cuddalore coast amid cyclonic weather on Thursday.

The operation followed a request from the Tamil Nadu State Authorities, who sought assistance as deteriorating conditions and lack of road access to the location made evacuation impossible by conventional means.

The six fishermen from Thaikkal Thonithurai village had ventured into the sea in private boats, which were damaged and sank due to rough weather.

They, along with four workers at the abandoned Chemplast jetty located about 2 km off Chitrapettai village, found themselves stranded as the weather worsened.

Responding swiftly, the ICG Regional Headquarters (East) deployed an Advanced Light Helicopter from the Coast Guard Air Station in Chennai.

Braving adverse weather conditions caused by the ongoing cyclonic activity, the helicopter crew carried out the search and rescue mission with precision, evacuating all 10 individuals safely to Chitrapettai.
