Sophie Turner on struggle being single mother comment: Widely misquoted

Hollywood actor Sophie Turner issued a clarification after receiving backlash for her comment on being a single mother. She told a portal that being a single mother is a “struggle”. Sophie was previously married to singer Joe Jonas. They are parents to two daughters.

In her statement on Instagram, Sophie Turner said, “I have been widely misquoted today in publications where I have “stated” that “it’s such a struggle being a single mother”. I’d like to clarify that I was talking about the character of Joan that I play and was not referring to myself, which is obvious from the original interview in the [portal’s name] section. I am very fortunate personally to have a lot of help around me, which is not the case for a lot of people – I applaud all single mothers doing it alone (sic).”

In an interview with Sunday Times, as reported by Page Six, Sophie referred to her new show Joan and discussed taking on the role of Joan Hannington, a real-life figure from the UK underworld. There, she said, “If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it. It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way â€æ but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter.”

She further added, “It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them. There’s so much shame that comes with motherhood. You go to work, you’re shamed. If you don’t go to work, you’re shamed.”

As for Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, the former couple began dating in 2016, got engaged in 2017 and got married in 2019.
