Shardul Thakur celebrated his second first-class hundred, a fighting knock for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, with a lot heart. The all-rounder did not hold back his emotions as he looked up to the sky before acknowledging the applause from the dressing room and the crowd at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Friday, January 24.

Shardul Thakur was thrilled with his performance, which helped Mumbai recover from a precarious position on Day 2 of their Elite Group A match in the Ranji Trophy. Shardul thumped his chest and signalled he belonged to the level, sending a strong message to the selectors.

Shardul got to his hundred in just 105 deliveries, playing a brilliant counter-attacking knock.

Mumbai recovered from 101 for 7 to end the second day’s play at 274 for 7. Shardul remained unbeaten on 113 from just 119 balls while Tanush Kotian, who was picked in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after R Ashwin retired, made 58 not out. The two stitched a 173-run partnership for the 8th wicket.

Shardul hit 17 boundaries, but tried to be as risk-free as possible.

Mumbai secured a lead of 188 runs as Shardul and Tanush put them in a dominant position on a pitch that is wearing down.
