Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the additional 13-kilometre Delhi section of the Namo Bharat corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar on Sunday.

According to a press statement, the inauguration will take place around 11 am and PM Modi will likely travel from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar.

The passenger operations will commence from 5 pm onwards on Sunday and trains will be available to the public at a frequency of 15 minutes. The fare from New Ashok Nagar station to Meerut South is Rs 150 for standard coach and Rs 225 for premium coach.

Of the newly inaugurated 13 km section, six km is underground and includes a prominent station on the corridor, Anand Vihar. This marks the first time that Namo Bharat trains will operate on an underground section.

With this inauguration, Namo Bharat trains will now arrive in Delhi. The Prime Minister inaugurated the 17 km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot on October 20 last year.

Currently, a 42-km stretch of the corridor between Sahibabad and Meerut South, featuring nine stations, is operational. With this inauguration, the operational stretch of the Namo Bharat corridor will expand to 55 km, with a total of 11 stations.

With the commencement of operations on this section, Meerut city is now directly connected to Delhi. This will reduce travel time by one-third, enabling commuters to travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in just under 40 minutes.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS IN EAST DELHI

Ahead of the event, the police also issued an advisory about traffic restrictions in East Delhi. As part of the advisory, the traffic restrictions on key roads include NH-9 and NH-24, stretching from Sarai Kale Khan to UP Gate on both carriageways.

Additionally, Ghazipur Road from Kondli to Noida Link Road, and New Ashok Nagar Metro Station Road from Sarpanch Chowk to the Holiday Inn Red Light, will see significant traffic control measures, the Delhi Police said. The Ghazipur Nala Road, along with roads from Chilla Border to New Ashok Nagar Metro Station and Noida Link Road up to Akshardham Mandir, will also experience disruptions, police said.

The restrictions will be enforced between 7 am and 1 pm on Sunday, January 5.
