Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have become the latest point of discord in the INDIA bloc, with the Trinamool Congress joining J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to dismiss Congress’s claims on the reliability of the voting method. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, in a dig at the Congress, said those questioning the EVMs should demonstrate how they could be “hacked”.
“I believe those questioning the EVM should go to the Election Commission and show proof if they have any. If proper checks are done during EVM randomisation, mock polls, and counting, I don’t think these allegations hold any substance. If someone still believes the EVM can be hacked, they should demonstrate it to the Election Commission,” Abhishek, who is the nephew of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said.
The Trinamool’s swipe at the Congress comes at a time when relations between the two INDIA bloc allies have been fraught over a host of issues. The Trinamool has stayed away from the Congress-led protests in Parliament over the Gautam Adani bribery case. A leadership tussle in the opposition camp, after Mamata Banerjee evinced interest in leading the INDIA bloc, has only deepened the rift.
