Kerala schools closed tomorrow, set to reopen on Monday: Here's is why

The government of Kerala has announced a public holiday for tomorrow, October 11, 2024, in observance of Navratri Pooja. All schools, colleges, and public offices will remain closed tomorrow to celebrate Mahanavami. According to reports, schools have already issued internal notices regarding the holiday. Initially, the holiday was declared only for educational institutions, but due to the significance of Navratri, the government extended the closure to state offices and banks as well.
Kerala’s Minister for General Education, V.Sivankutty, confirmed that all schools under the General Education Department will remain closed. Schools will reopen on Monday, October 14, 2024. Additionally, schools, banks, and public offices will be closed on October 11 (Mahanavami), October 12 (Vijayadashami), and October 13 (Sunday).
As per Kerala’s official holiday calendar, a holiday for Navratri festivities was already scheduled for October 10. However, in response to a memorandum submitted by the National Teachers’ Union, Minister V. Sivankutty extended the holiday to include October 11 as well.
This year, Navratri Puja will begin on the evening of October 10. Due to Tritiya spanning two sunrises, Durgashtami Puja is scheduled for 10 PM on Ashtami dusk. The Mahanavami and Vijayadashami Pujas will follow on October 11 and 12, respectively.
Students, parents, and guardians are advised to contact their respective school authorities for further updates on holidays and reopening schedules.
