Halton, a global technology leader in demanding indoor air solutions commits to set a near-term science-based target as well as a net zero target aligned with the requirements of the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Halton’s commitment includes reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and engaging with its suppliers to decrease its indirect Scope 3 emissions by 2035.

The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), We Mean Business Coalition and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It provides companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals – limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

“The urgency of the climate crisis is becoming increasingly evident, impacting human activity and economies on local and global levels. Businesses are a central part of mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.  Halton has a threefold role here. For the first, our solutions contribute to energy efficiency across our customer segments, globally helping a wide range of industries from foodservice and energy to healthcare and maritime meet their Scope 1, 2 and 3 CO2 targets. Secondly, safe, and sustainable indoor environments will only grow in importance as the temperatures continue to rise, making Halton’s technologies a vital part of adaptation. Finally, we also have our own global operations, and a science-based commitment is a natural next step on our decarbonisation journey,” Halton’s President and CEO Kai Konola comments.

“We have already actively reduced our carbon footprint by using renewable or low CO2 electricity in the majority of our facilities as well as by investing in solar around the globe. Sustainability is an integral part of our strategy, highlighted e.g. by decoupling from increased material use by growing in lifecycle services. Decarbonising our service fleet and steel supply are a major focus for us. We will continue tackling these challenges through strategic choices, co-innovation with customers and partners, and cross-industry partnerships. Our technologies are critical to the green transition, further solidifying a science-based, customer-centric approach to our own emission targets,” Halton’s Chief Sustainability Officer Riikka Paarma comments.

Throughout 2025, Halton will continue to detail its target setting and climate transition plan. The target will then be evaluated and approved by the SBTi, and Halton estimates that the final target will be published in 2026.

“As a family-owned company, creating a positive impact in the long term has always been part of our ownership ethos. Both in my capacity as CEO of Halton Ventures Ltd and as a climate transition researcher and SBTi advisor, I am proud of Halton’s climate commitment. This commitment shows that Halton’s direction is clear – innovating with the customer to navigate through and excel in the sustainability transition,” Krista Halttunen, an SBTi Expert Advisory Group member and the CEO of Halton Ventures Ltd, concludes.
