A Drishti-10 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed into the sea off Gujarat’s Porbandar coast during acceptance trials conducted by the vendor before its induction into the Indian Navy, according to sources. The incident occurred while the UAV, designed for maritime surveillance and reconnaissance, was undergoing operational tests.

The Drishti-10 lost command mid-flight and plunged into the waters, raising questions about its operational reliability, sources said. Sources confirmed that the crash caused no injuries or collateral damage.

Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the malfunction, with initial assessments focusing on possible technical issues.

The Indian Navy had placed an order for two Drishti-10 UAVs under the Emergency Procurement mechanism, a streamlined process aimed at fulfilling critical operational requirements on a fast-track basis.

The Indian Army has also ordered two units of the UAV, which underscores the importance of resolving any design or operational challenges swiftly.
