GEURS 2025: Top IITs and Indian Universities in Computer Science Rankings

The Global Employability University Rankings and Survey (GEURS) 2025 has once again spotlighted institutions shaping the future of higher education. Compiled by Emerging, a French consultancy specialising in education and employability trends, GEURS stands as a vital resource for employers and students alike, offering insights into which universities excel in producing graduates with cutting-edge skills and employability. Within the rankings lies the Digital Leaders in Higher Education segment, which highlights institutions integrating essential digital expertise into their curricula.
This segment is divided into five categories: Digital Entrepreneurship Programmes, Computer Science Studies, Data Science/AI and Business Analytics, Digital Transformation Management, and Best Online Studies. The Computer Science Studies category focuses on universities excelling in computer science education, nurturing graduates ready to tackle today’s technology-driven challenges. Among the Indian institutions, seven IITs—Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Madras, Roorkee, and Guwahati —emerged as leaders.

India’s IITs have consistently set the benchmark in engineering and technology education, and their dominance in the Computer Science category of GEURS 2025 further cements this legacy. India’s IITs dominate the Computer Science rankings, with five institutes ranking globally in the top 100. These IITs reflect India’s growing prominence in technology and engineering education.
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay): IIT Bombay, ranked 20th globally in the GEURS 2025 Computer Science category, continues to lead the Indian contingent. Known for its robust curriculum and research initiatives in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, IIT Bombay is a beacon of excellence. As per the QS World University Rankings 2025, IIT Bombay secured the 118th spot globally and ranked 36th in Asia. Nationally, it achieved the top position in the QS India Rankings 2025. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 also lauded IIT Bombay with 3rd place overall and 4th in research. Its unmatched industry linkages and an exceptional track record in placements make it a global favourite for employers.
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi): Ranked 49th globally in GEURS 2025, IIT Delhi is another stalwart in the Indian academic ecosystem. It is highly regarded for its focus on cutting-edge technologies like quantum computing and robotics. The QS World University Rankings 2025 placed IIT Delhi at 150th globally and 47th in Asia. Domestically, NIRF 2024 ranked it 4th overall, 3rd in research, and 2nd among engineering colleges. IIT Delhi’s reputation for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship is bolstered by strong collaborations with top tech firms, ensuring that its graduates are highly sought after worldwide.
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur): Securing the 74th spot in GEURS 2025, IIT Kharagpur has carved a niche in interdisciplinary research and innovation. According to the QS World University Rankings 2025, IIT Kharagpur ranked 222nd globally and 59th in Asia. Within India, it was ranked 5th overall and 4th in research by NIRF 2024. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur): Ranked 76th globally in GEURS 2025, IIT Kanpur is synonymous with excellence in computer science education. Its research spans artificial intelligence, distributed systems, and bioinformatics. QS World University Rankings 2025 placed IIT Kanpur at 263rd globally and 67th in Asia. Domestically, it was ranked 5th overall by NIRF 2024 and 4th in research. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras): IIT Madras, tied with IIT Kanpur at 76th in GEURS 2025, is a pioneer in computer science education and research. It has made significant strides in areas like IoT, blockchain, and computational biology. In QS World University Rankings 2025, it achieved 227th globally and 54th in Asia. NIRF 2024 ranked IIT Madras 3rd overall and 1st in engineering.
