The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for fog in the Delhi-NCR region for Thursday and Friday and has issued a yellow alert on Saturday.
The weather body said that dense fog will engulf most places in the capital region in the morning on Thursday and Friday with very dense fog at isolated places. Delhi will see mainly clear sky with smog or shallow fog likely during the evening on Thursday and Friday, it said.
Similarly, the weather body said that moderate to dense fog will engulf Delhi on Saturday.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 448, which falls under ‘severe’ category’ at 2.30 am on Thursday. The air quality has deteriorated in the past few days due to lower temperatures and low wind speeds, which is hindering the dispersal of pollutants.
The AQI of Delhi breached the ‘severe plus’ mark at 11 pm on Wednesday, and it was recorded at 450. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 23 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season’s normal.
The city’s 24-hour average AQI was 433 at 4 pm on Wednesday, against 379 recorded the previous day.
