A war of words erupted between the Congress and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh over his apology to the people of the northeastern state for the ongoing ethnic violence that has killed more than 200 people and left thousands homeless since it erupted in May 2023.
In response to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “refusal” to visit Manipur and reach out to the affected communities, Biren Singh said his state is in “turmoil today because of the past sins committed by the Congress”.
